4 issues in parks rec with medium priority
Milford Museum relocation to former police station
The museum moved into 400A NE Front Street and is opening in phases, but wants the city to clarify who handles the parking lot and exterior maintenance — and says it needs $30-35K for first-floor exhibits.
Deep Branch Park Phase I
The city's $1.5 million park project is still in the approval stage: soil borings are needed before the county signs off on stormwater design, then it goes to competitive bid. Recreation options like basketball and pickleball courts were removed from the current plan.
Parks and Recreation staffing and community center feasibility study
Director Brad Danahey asked for a part-time recreation coordinator to relieve two overworked full-time staff, and noted council's interest in a feasibility study for a recreation/community center. Councilman Perez voiced strong support, citing Cary, NC's thriving facility.
Riverwalk Lighting Project
Council accepted a $160,000 state Community Reinvestment Fund award and matched it with $160,000 in reserves to light the Riverwalk — a safety upgrade to complement the lighting already done on the other side.
